PREPaRE WORKSHOP 1: COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL SAFETY PLANNING: PREVENTION THROUGH RECOVERY (Third Edition) 7 CEUs
8:00-4:00

Franci Crepeau-Hobson, Ph.D. and Julie Stonis, Ed.S.

Regsitration for this session has closed.

Just released in summer 2019, this newly updated and improved PREPaRE workshop 1 focuses on the first two elements of the PREPaRE model (“Prevent” and “Reaffirm”) as well as exploring the final element (Examine).

Specifically, WS1 is designed to stimulate the thinking of educational professionals regarding ways that they can help to establish and sustain comprehensive school crisis preparedness efforts (which are designed to help improve school climate, student behavior, and academic functioning; student resilience; and staff crisis response capabilities).

WS1 emphasizes the unique needs and functions of school safety and crisis response teams. It acknowledges the need for teams to be consistent with school structures, laws, and the Incident Command System. It also reviews steps important to the development of cohesive and sustainable teams, and provides a model that integrates school personnel and community provider roles. The PREPaRE model aligns with a multitier delivery system and builds on existing personnel resources and programs, with particular emphasis on balancing physical and psychological safety.

Finally, the workshop explores how to prepare for school crises by developing, exercising, and evaluating crisis preparedness plans. WS1 is appropriate for school-employed mental health professionals, administrators, security professionals, teachers, and other staff who are (or will be) involved in school crisis preparedness efforts. Bring your administrators and crisis/safety teams! Participants must bring an Internet connective device to the workshop (laptop or tablet preferred but a smartphone will work).

Registration also includes your choice of one of the following Thursday Evening Sessions (4:30-6:30):

Changing the Life Trajectory of At-Risk Students Through Establishing A Prevention-Focused Multi-tiered System of Supports - Rebecca Knight, CDE
