Session 1 (10:00-11:30): Cultural and linguistic prereferral and assessment considerations for multilingual learners
Presenter: Dr. Desiree Vega, Associate Professor, Disability and Psychoeducational Studies, University of Arizona.
Description: Multilingual learners experience unique challenges navigating the educational system; therefore, school psychologists must understand their cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This session will address prereferral considerations, including language acquisition, acculturation, intervention, and exclusionary factors. Additionally, the session will discuss using multiple data sources to determine whether a disability is present.

Session 2 (12:00-2:00): Determinations and State Performance Plan Indicator Profiles: Implications for School Psychologists
Presenter: Krista Klabo, School Psychology and Special Education Evaluation Specialist
Description: The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has released a new, user-friendly report that combines each Administrative Unit’s (AU’s) Determination under IDEA Section 616(d) with its State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) Indicator Profile. These reports reflect both compliance and results data related to the provision of special education services. Participants will have dedicated time to explore their own AU’s report and reflect on opportunities to support continuous improvement and outcomes for students with disabilities. Participants will earn 3.5 hours of NASP and CDE Approved CPDs for attending both sessions. Session 1 CPD hours count towards the equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) recertification requirement and Session 2 CPD hours count towards the ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychology recertification requirement.
