Session Description:

This session examines responsible AI use in school psychology and school-based mental health practice. It addresses ethical decision-making, including confidentiality, bias, transparency, and professional judgment. Participants will learn how AI can support them as they serve students with disabilities.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify key ethical considerations for AI use in school psychology, including confidentiality, bias, transparency, documentation, and professional judgment.

2. Describe ways AI tools can support professional workflow, communication, and service delivery while maintaining appropriate ethical and legal safeguards.

3. Evaluate how AI may support school psychologists as they serve students with disabilities.

Presenter Biography: Adam B. Lockwood, Ph.D., NCSP, is an Associate Professor of School Psychology at Kent State University. His research and training focus on the integration of artificial intelligence into psychological practice, including AI-assisted report writing, ethical and governance frameworks, and AI-supported research methods. Dr. Lockwood chairs the National Register of Health Service Psychologists’ AI and Emerging Technologies Committee and has served on AI task forces for NASP and the Ohio School Health Services Association. In 2025, he was selected for the OpenAI Academy: Professors Teaching with AI. His article examining GPT-4’s ability to write an APA-style school psychology paper received the 2025 Article of the Year award from Contemporary School Psychology.
