Futures

Roles and Responsibilities:
The Futures Chairpersons (a practitioner and a university trainer) have the following responsibilities as members of the Professional Standards program area:

  • Attend and participate in their program area and board meeting.
  • Work with six regional representatives and CDE representative to achieve Futures goals.
  • Assist in promoting an increase in the use of a data-driven problem solving model to implement evidence-based instruction for all children.
  • Assist in creating statewide regional training and communication networks for school psychologists, special education directors, and intervention teams.
  • Address the documented shortage of school psychologists.
  • Foster collaboration, as well as provide opportunities for professional development for school psychologists across the state.
  • Act as a liaison between school districts and CSSP, CDE and the Colorado school psych training programs to strengthen collaborative efforts with regard to professional standards and development of opportunities for school psychologists.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of a multi-faceted strategy for recruiting school psychologists to Colorado school districts.

Roles and Responsibilities:

University Trainers have the following responsibilities as members of the Professional Standards program area:

  • Attend and participate in their program area and board meetings.
  • Act as a liaison between CSSP and Colorado training programs in order to strengthen collaborative efforts with regard to professional standards and development opportunities for school psychologists.
  • Identify and discuss research and training needs that could be fulfilled in collaboration with CSSP.
  • Create and maintain a list (with contact information including email addresses) of all trainers in their school psychology training programs.
  • Provide above list to Technology Chairperson and/or webmaster for creation of a listserv.
  • Monitor the list serve regularly and bring forward issues identified by individuals on the listserv.

CDE Representation

Roles and Responsibilities:

The CDE representative has the following responsibilities as a member of the Professional Standards program area:

  • Attend and participate in their program area and board meetings.
  • Communicate with the CSSP Council and members regarding issues at the state department that would be of interest and concern to the CSSP leadership to promote a proactive approach to school psychology in the state of Colorado.
  • Write an article for each CSSP newsletter.
  • Discuss ethical issues related to the practice of school psychology and state legal mandates with the CSSP Ethics committee.
  • Discuss current state and federal legal issues as well as proposed changes with the Legislative Committee Chair.
  • Serve on CSSP ad hoc committees as appointed by the President.

Independent Practice

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Independent Practice Chairperson has the following responsibilities as a member of the Professional Standards program area:

  • Attend and participate in their program area and board meetings.
  • Communicate with the CSSP Executive Council and members regarding issues from school psychologists who work concurrently in schools and private practice.
  • Create a written document (position paper) defining potential ethical issues and recommended standards for people employed in schools and in independent practice. Get approval of the position paper from the Executive Council and forward the position paper to the Publications Chairperson for inclusion in newsletter.
  • Monitor any legislation impacting independent practice and consult with the legislative committee.
  • Create a list of individuals involved in independent practice as school psychologists with current contact information including email addresses (refer to requested additions to membership form).
  • Provide above list to Technology Chairperson and/or webmaster for creation of a listserv.
  • Monitor the listserv regularly and bring forward issues identified by individuals on the listserv.
  • Coordinate with the Ethics chairperson regarding ethical issues that impact independent practice.

Ethics

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Ethics Chairperson has the following area: responsibilities as a member of the Professional Standards program.

  • Attend and participate in their program area and board meetings.
  • Responsible for defining ethical standards and for responding promptly and completely to all ethical informal inquiries.
  • Responsible to respond to the Council when directed to develop position papers or perform other activities. Creation of position papers with the addition of members who have expertise and extensive knowledge in the area being addressed. All position statements must be submitted as agenda action items to the Executive Council for to the approval by the majority before being disseminated general membership or public.
  • Collaborate with Independent Practice, Legislative, and CDE representatives will collaborate on issues as they arise.
  • Consult with NASP Delegate and NASP Ethics chairperson as needed.
  • In the event that an ethical complaint is received, a referral to the appropriate licensure body will be made (e.g. CDE, DORA).
